Saint Margaret - Russian Martyr
Saint margaritaknown as the martyr. By origin she was Greek, born about 1865 or 1866. Before she accepted monasticism, she lived in Kiev, her spiritual mentor was Alexander Korsakovsky, rector of the Kiev-St. George church.
Mother Margarita was remembered as a person with a fiery faith and ardent love for God. For every question Margarita turned to her confessor.
Margarita loved neighbors, was kind, condescending to people. After taking the veil in a nun, she became a nun of the women's community “Joy and consolation”, where Countess Orlova-Davydova was there as the mother Superior. Communicating with the sisters was not easy, and my mother had to show a lot of patience and great humility during the period of living with the nuns.
In 1917, by the decree of the Holy Synod, St. Margaret was appointed abbot of the Menzelinsky Prophet-Ilyinsky Women's Monastery in the Ufa province with a subsequent appointment and tonsure to the high priesthood.
Moving to Menzelinsk was difficult and time consuming. Mother arrived there in the late winter of 1917.In the Prophet-Ilyinsky monastery there were three churches: Ilyinsky, Voznesensky and the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.
At these temples the monastic church school worked, the economy with orchards, apiaries and kitchen gardens flourished, a hotel for pilgrims, where nuns worked a lot. There was also a place where they painted icons, carpentry, tailoring, bookbinding workshop ... In this monastery they even made their own production of photography.
On April 18, 1918, Saint Margaret was elected to the Diocesan Council. At that time there was a lot of unrest, the monastery passed from hand to hand — now to the Bolsheviks, then to the Mensheviks. There were moments when Margarita wanted to leave with the whites, so as not to deal with the Bolsheviks.
But one day Nicholas the Pleasant appeared to her, who asked why she wanted to leave her crown. Struck by what she saw, Margarita returned to the monastery and ordered to prepare a coffin for herself. On August 21, 1918, the Bolsheviks attacked Menzelinsk, in which many people died.
Holy margaritashot for harboring white officers who were injured and could not move independently.
When the drunken Bolsheviks broke into the walls of the monastery in order to desecrate him, my mother fearlessly went out to the crowd of destroyers and said these words: “I will not allow entering the monastery. I am not afraid of death, because all my life I have been looking forward to meeting God. By killing me, you ruin your souls. ”
After these words, my mother prayed all night in the temple, took the sacrament. In the morning she was shot. It happened on August 22, 1918.
