This injury has several subspecies:

  • sprains - elastic connective tissue located between the bones;
  • muscle strain - elastic muscle tissue capable of contraction;
  • Stretching tendons - the tissue that connects muscle and bone.

In most cases, elbow, knee and ankle joints are subject to sprains.

  • hematoma (blue) of the skin in the area of ​​injury. Sometimes the bruise appears the next day, but it may not appear at all;
  • Stretching moderate severity limits the mobility of the joints. A complete rupture of the ligaments, on the contrary, makes the limb too mobile;
  • Sometimes when stretching, a clap is heard - with such a sound, ligaments are torn.

Timely provided and properly provided first aid for stretching allows you to restore the functionality of the damaged joint in a couple of weeks. Otherwise, the rehabilitation period will last more than a month.

What to do when stretching? The procedure is very simple:

  • you should first immobilize the joint, putting the injured limb or positioning the person so as to ensure the outflow of blood. If the leg is damaged, put it on a chair, putting a pillow under it.The arm can be fixed with a support band;
  • apply a tight bandage using an elastic bandage. Do not overdo it - too tight squeezing will break the blood flow;
  • make a 20-minute cold compress. When applying ice, you should put a napkin or a towel between it and the skin, so you eliminate the hypothermia of the skin. When you break the muscle compress the first two days should be repeated every 4 hours;
  • take pain medication if necessary.
