100 years ago. How "Friend of Mankind" headed Russia
One of the last lifetime caricatures of A. F. Kerensky. Figure Julius Ganfa 1969 (the magazine "Crocodile"). "Knockout forever." The referee counts the years since the day of the knockout of Russian capitalism. Alas, the knockout was not eternal ... (Kerensky is depicted on the left side of the figure).
Exactly 100 years ago, on July 20 (7), 1917, Alexander F. Kerensky headed the Russian government. In those days, the whole country literally drowned in delight to this man (who was called the "Friend of Mankind"), delights that after only six months disappeared without a trace. They are quite accurately described by Arkady Gaidar in the "School":
“Everyone was really mad. Only it was heard:“ Kerensky, Kerensky ... ”His portraits were placed in each issue of the newspaper:“ Kerensky speaks speech ”,“ The population covers the path of Kerensky with flowers ”,“ An enthusiastic crowd of women carries Kerensky on their hands. ”Member of the Arzamas City Duma, Feofanov traveled to Moscow on business and for the hand greeted Kerensky. They ran after the Feofanov herds.
- Is it really that he said hello?
“So I said hello,” Feofanov proudly answered.
- Right by the hand?
- Right behind the right hand, but shook more.
- Here! - the excited whisper was heard around. “The king would never say hello, but Kerensky would say hello.” Thousands of people come to him in a day, and with all he’s by the hand, but before
- There used to be Tsarism ...
- I see ... And now freedom.
- Hooray! Hooray! Long live freedom! .. Long live Kerensky! .. Send him a greeting telegram.
Caricature Kukryniksov. "The first act of the Provisional Government on Turkestan was a decree of March 18, 1917 on amnesty to the executioners of the Kirghiz uprising of 1916."
It must be said that by this time every tenth telegram passing through the post office was welcome and addressed to Kerensky. They were sent from meetings, from school meetings, from meetings of the church council, from the Duma, from the society of banner-bearers - well, positively everywhere, where several people gathered, a greeting telegram was sent.
Once there were rumors that not a single telegram was sent from the Arzamas society of kuvodstvo lovers to the “dear leader”.In the local weekly newspaper appeared indignant denial of the society Ofendulin. Ofendulin bluntly argued that these rumors were malicious slander. As many as two telegrams were sent, and in a special footnote, the editorial board certified that in support of his refutation, the respected M.Ya. Ofendulin presented “the receipts of the postal and telegraph office in the proper order.”
Caricature of Kukryniks to quote V.I. Lenin about A. F. Kerensky.
